Discussing William Little, Chief Justice of N.C., the source below
notes that he had descendants by his second wife, Penelope, daughter of
another NC Chief Justice, Christopher Gale:

Reading in _Bibliotheca Topographica Britannica_, vol. 3, I came across
a fold-out pedigree chart showing "Christopher [Gale], att. gen. and
chief justice of North Carolina," as the son of "Miles [Gale], A.M.
rector of Kighley 1712." This seems to be confirmed by the following:
http://books.google.com/books?vid=OCLC0 ... miles+gale
Christopher Gale's ahnentafel, reconstructed from the chart in
_Bibliotheca Topographica Britannica_, is as follows:
1. Christopher Gale, Chief Justice of NC
2. Rev. Miles Gale of Kighley
3. Margaret, da. of Dr. Christopher Stones, chancellor, of York
4. John Gale, b. 1601, d. Feb. 1685/6
5. Joanna, da. of Miles Dodson, esq. of Kirkby Overblows
8. John Gale of Scruton, d. 1624
9. Jane, eldest dau. of John Frank of Pontefract
16. Robert, or Francis, Gale of Akeham Grange
17. Anne, da. of William Clapham, of Beamsley, widow of Mr. Thwaite,
of Marston, remarried to John, brother to Sir William Ingelby, of
Ripley
The family of Clapham of Beamsley, for one, seems to be very ancient:

and his father-in-law, Rev. Peter Cooke:
