Must be a slow News day and they needed filler<GRIN>.
It may be "news" to the general public but not to even amateur
genealogists.

Its interesting how these 'popularized' stories get things wrong.

The Islamic dynasty in Spain was Ummaya (not "Abbadid", which is some
sort
of error for Abbasid).

They also present the Zaida scenario, and say the line
"probably breaks again at this point."
"But if you give the Zaida/Isabel story the benefit of the doubt".

Lots of people will ignore evidence, as it suits them.

It would have been just as interesting if they mentioned some of the
Descents from Antiquity.

What is referred as an "Islamic dynasty in Spain" is Ummayad, but is
probable that some Abbasids may have settled there.
Also Fatimids from Egipt had good relations in al-Andalus and it is
more than probable that through any of them, Muhammad's blood went to
Europe. None of these possible lines is documented and all claims until
now are bogus - I am not forgetting the Aga Khan's line wich seems
broken in Persia - but there is a documented line to Spain through the
sharifs of Maghreb, later lords of Morocco and there is a very probable
connection with the lords of Maia (near Oporto). That's Chico Doria's
line wich will soon be published.
I doubt everybody will accept Doria's arguments, but it is by far the
best possible chance to spread Muhammad's blood through Europe (and the
american gateways, of course).

In my opinion, the worse of the article, was to give *everybody* a hope
of royal ancestors, presenting as an example Brooke Shields who had a
princess for grandmother as if that was just common.
