Is there any other support for her identity as a daughter of Gruffudd ap
Madog (d. 1269), lord of Bromfield, other than Cokayne's Complete Peerage 2:231?
The footnote supporting her identification refers to her marriage licence
as its source, but if you check the Patent Rolls [Henry III, 5:177], this
licence dated 2 Oct. 1261 at St. Paul's, London, merely calls her Ankeretta,
niece of James de Alditheleg'.

Certainly James de Aldithelegh and his father Henry were used by Henry III
in his interaction with the ruling family of Powys Fadog from 1245 to 1262,
and Emma de Aldithelegh was the wife of Gruffudd ap Madog (d. 1269) as early as
1244. But the 1261 licence leaves other possibilities open for Ankeretta's
identity unless there is other supporting evidence.

I favor the identification of Ankeretta (Angharad) as the Welsh lord's
daughter; Gruffudd ap Madog's grandmother was Angharad ferch Owain Gwynedd. But I
was hoping to find other evidence supporting her parentage.

Even though his sons married Welsh wives [Madog to Margaret ferch Gruffudd
ap Llywelyn Fawr & Gruffudd Fychan to Margaret ferch Gruffudd ap Cadwgan of
Eyton], Gruffudd's known daughter Margaret was married into a family of Norman
descent, the Arderne family of Aldford and Alvanley, Cheshire, and Elford,
Staffordshire. So he was not adverse to intermarrying his family with his
sometime enemies.
