I have noted that Baldwin may also be the brother of Ingleram who married
Christian de Lyndsay daughter of Ada, sister of John Baliol according to
Burkes's Dormant Peerage. This line ties to William de Lancaster.
Douglas Richardson mentions Richard de Montfichet in his Plantagenet
Ancestry concerning lands ca. 1227 in Lesnes, Kent evidently from a previous
suit by Richard (Fitz Roy) de Warenne and his wife Rose de Dover who also
held the manor of Chingfold, Essex.
At the time of the Domesday Book, ³Ordgar, a thane of Robert¹s, held
Chingford which one free man held before 1066 as a manor, for five hides.²
This Robert is most probably Robert Gernun who held extensive lands in
Essex.
In the line of Gernons who apparently took the name Montfichet, William
married Margaret de Clare, daughter of Richard Fitz Gilbert, Lord of Clare.
Any further thoughts on the identity of this Baldwin.
Thank you,
Pat
