I swear I'm going to kill these Brenchley's.
Just when I thought I'd figured it out, this guy is a generation earlier than
I want him to be.

There appear to be two (the Elder and the Younger):

I have not had time yet to find the pages with the details.

Has anyone had any luck in finding what this index entry refers to?
I've looked and nothing seems to be coming up in a search.

Ok, I've now had time to examin the pages. On the page listed above,
and on many pages before and after, are lists of people in many
counties that were to be asked to take an oath. Details are to be
found on page 370 of Henry VI Vol 2 membrane 29.

http://sdrc.lib.uiowa.edu/patentrolls/h ... ge0370.pdf

May 1st 1434. Westminster.

Commision, pursuant ot Act of the last Parliament [Rolls of Parliament
Vol. IV, pp. 452-459] to W. bishop of Lincoln and William le Souche of
Harngworht, 'chivaler,' and Thomas Grenham anf William Beaufo, knights
of the shire for the country of Rutland in the last Parliament, to
issue their warrant to the sheriff for proclamation in the next court
of the county that the following whose names names have been certified
into chancery by the said knights of the shire as those of persons who
should take the oath not to maintain peace breakers referred to in the
said Act [see Rolls of Parliament Vol. IV, p. 422] should appear
before the said commissioners, or three or two of them, and take the
said oath, viz.---

That is the first reference. In subsequent pages other counties are
dealt with and we reach Kent on page 388 where we find:

Kent. H. archbishop of Canterbury and Robert de Ponynges, knight, also
Richard Wydevyle and John Perye, knights of the shire for the county
of Kent, commissioners to receive the oath of the following;---

And it is on the next page to that (389) where we find the names of
John Brenchesle the elder and John Brenchesle the younger.

So, in 1434 we know there are at least two John Brenchesles in the
frame in Kent.
