OT In Memoriam (a poem)

Dear fellow Listers,
I thought as We prepare to celebrate America`s
Memorial Day to share the following poem with you. In it`s way, it is very much
honoring the fighting men of the medieval period as much as any other, a theme
so central to that period.

In Memoriam

Like Cordwood stacked the corpses lie
Honored Soldiers side by side
From the Sick Tents pain and death
Evidence of Battle and loss of health
Too Young, yet not too young to die
Did as told without asking why ?
Who knows who lost or won
Many never saw another sun
Crecy, Somalia, Hastings, Algiers
Same as each other in different years
We honor all those who gave up all
For misguided Glory did They fall
Rusted Weaponry, helmets split
` Fields of Honour` littered by such as this
The Young, the Old, the Cautious, the Proud
Fought each Other in Battle loud
Never will there be a moratorium
We recall these men in memoriam

James William Cummings
