Lever family of East and South Harting, West Sussex

Dear group -

My partner has recently received the will of his ancestor Edward Lever,
born around 1732 and died in December 1775 in either South or East
Harting, West Sussex. Listed in the will as a "malster," beside a
malt-house and adjoining properties Lever owned several rental
properties in South and East Harting and died a wealthy man. His wife
is listed as Ann, and his children were Ann, Joseph (primary heir),
Richard (cut off with a guinea), James, Ashton (also cut off with a
guinea) and Sarah, who married a Pannell and is my partner's
ancestress.

The curious thing, and the reason I am posting this, is that I find
that the name Ashton was common in the landed Lever family of
Lancashire, quite a bit to the north of West Sussex; and have also
found while Googling that in 1775 an Ashton Lever is listed as having
arrived in Maryland. I am wondering two probably unrelated things, but
bear with me: is this Ashton Lever of Maryland perhaps the same younger
son cut off by Edward Lever with a guinea? And might this Lever
family, given the naming of a son Ashton, be at all connected to the
one in Lancashire?

Any and all advice appreciated.

Grant
