It looks as if Joan Welle was her father's sole heir. What do you
think?

Yes, I agree. Confirmation may be found in Joan's Proof of Age [PRO C

called daughter and heir of William de Welles.

Is anything known about William de Welle [or Welles], the father of Joan?
Is he possibly connected to the family of the Barons Welles? Is his spouse
known?

RE: Deaths of Henry and Joan Coggeshall, 1375
John,
The Welle family was of Great Sampford, Essex. There does not appear to be a
connection to the baronial Welles family. This family has been discussed
extensively in the archives. Joan's ancestry includes the Kemesek, Polstead
and Chaundos families.
In addition to what was shared in the archives, VCH Cambridge and Copinger
can help fill in her ancestry.
