Elizabeth Cecil / William Wentworth

Now this is exciting (to me).

Evidently in my meandering around, adding lines that are not more then ten
degrees distant from Richard Cecil d 19 Mar 1552/3 (my direct ancestor), I had
added that one of his granddaughters Elizabeth Cecil had married a William
Wentworth, and that he was born abt 1555/6.

Even though he is only two degrees away, I hadn't checked out his ancestry
until today. It turns out a large part of his father's family already in my
database but at 7 to 9 degrees of distance!

So now all these people can have their distance lowered by 3 to 5 degrees.
That will, I'm sure greatly assist in my effort to prove that each Elizabethan
landed gentry was no more than 10 degrees seperated from any other randomly
chosen gentry.

A noble aim, but how can you ever hope to prove such a thing? The
evidence simply isn't there in many, many case.

That's not to say I doubt your premise: except for a few cases, I
suspect it is likely to be true. I have, for instance, tried to
calculate the degrees of relationship between some of the married
couples amongst the ancestors of Edward Docwra (1616-1665) of Cherry
Hinton, Cambs: his parents were 9th cousins; his great great
grandparents 11th cousins; his gt gt gt 11th cousins; his gt gt gt gt
10th cousins, but not enough is known about his grandparents or great
grandparents' ancestries to be able to draw any conclusions.
