LeVasher?

Legg inn av SomersetSue » 02 mai 2006 23:33:13

Hello everyone

I wonder if anyone has any bright ideas to help with a small puzzle?

In tracking back a branch of my family (a very ordinary branch) in
Stogursey in Somerset I discovered that some of them were using two
surnames. They are called Vickery alias LeVasher (also Levasher and
Levashier).

The earliest one I spotted so far is Robert LeVasher Gender: Male
Birth: Stogursey, Somerset, England
Marriage: 29 JAN 1593 Frossay, Loire-Atlantique, France

This seems to be a submitted entry and I'm not sure how accurate it is.
There is no indication I can find of who he married or why he was
living in a very small place in rural Somerset.

This looks like a Frenchman but I'm not sure if this is a proper French
surname. If he were travelling then perhaps he wasn't an ordinary
peasant.

I wondered if this is a name anyone has come across in their research
please? Searches on various search engines haven't helped much.

Best wishes
Sue
