Parents of Maud / Matilda Sutton who married Ralph Josselyn?

I have a 2 part question.

The first part is, was Maud / Matilda Sutton (b. abt. 1306) who married Ralph Josselyn (b. abt. 1275) the daughter of Sir John de Sutton and Margaret Somery?

Elizabeth French in The New England Genealogical and Historical Society Register, vol. 71 states that her father was Sir John de Sutton. Burke's Peerage & Baronetage, 106th Edition states "Ralph Jocelyn; living c 1309; m 1st Anne, dau of William Sandes; m 2nd Matilda (d 1353), dau of John Sutton, and by her had: Geoffrey Jocelyn..." and one 1612 visitation of Essex shows "Mawde, daugh. to Sr. John Sutton al's Dudley". In another visitation shows that Maud (Matildis) was a daughter of John Sutton, soldier. The ages and the location of the families seem right. All of this puts together makes it seem possible if not probable that the Maud that married Ralph Josselyn was the daughter of Sir John de Sutton and Margaret Somery.

The second part of my question is does anyone know how the Josselyn family came into possession of the Shellow-Bowells estate? Was that estate ever in the hands of the Sutton or Somery families?

In an old post on this message board by Carol Miller I found the following statements. “Another source, The Journal of American History of 1912, has an article on the Joscelyn-Joslin family, which takes the family back to ancient Troy, but my interest is the part about Ralph who married Maud Sutton in 1301, said Maud being the daughter of Sir John Sutton, at which time Ralph became the owner of Shellon-Bowells in County Essex, one of the most picturesque family seats in England.” And "The Jocelyn, Joslin, Joslyn, Josselyn Family" compiled by Edith Wessler in 1961, states that the above Maud was daughter of Sir John de Sutton, knt., and Margery de Somery, daughter of Roger de Somery, Baron of Dudley. "Upon the marriage of his daughter Maud to Ralph Josselyn, Sir John de Sutton presented them with his beautiful estate, Shellow-Bowells."

However it appears that Ralph Josselyn was born at Shellow-Bowells according to Elizabeth French in The New England Genealogical and Historical Society Register, vol. 71. So how could he acquire his estate through marriage if he was born there? Am I reading something wrong?

Thanks, Brent.
