Hello Group. Glad I found you. I live in W. Canada. Researching origin
of our family name - Olley - and ancestors. Found out that it is a
derivative of above surnames. Have you any links? I have been to free
links in UK. Not looking in right places. Help? Thankyou in advance.

You can only say that when you have found who you descend from. These
naming sites and books will say anything to gain your custom.

Hi Olley_Watt. Was just looking at a charter from 1084
having to do with the abbey of Lessay signed by a Roberti de
Oillei. If the same family, you've quite a bit of history
behind your name. If you'd like, I can send you a scan of
the page, privately, since the list doesn't accept
attachments.

A quick scan of the 1911 Canadian census shows the following birthplaces
for the 9 Olley people named (none of the other variants show up). None
of these people lived with other Olleys. Looking at the original census
shows mis-interpretations. Alternative surname in brackets.

Quebec (O'Leary)
United States of America (Olleg?) - German
Austria (Colley?)
England

Ontario
Scotland (Atlay?)
