Legg inn av P.T. » 16 apr 2006 17:43:00

Dr. James D. Tabor's The Jesus Dynasty was released last week (April 4) from
Simon & Schuster with national attention from ABC Good Morning America,
20/20, and Nightline. It is the subject of the cover story in USNews&World
Report this week, on newsstands through Easter.

In just over a week the book has climbed to #22 on the NYTimes Best Sellers
list and it broke into the top 50 on Amazon.

Tabor's work is pitched at the non-specialist, and although based on
historical sources and 30 years of his research, both textual and
archaeological, the book unfolds in an engaging narrative style. Tabor
describes his work as part of the ongoing "Quest for the Historical Jesus"
and he dedicates his work to Albert Schweitzer. Tabor grounds Jesus
throughly in his 1st century Greco-Roman apocalyptic Jewish background and
seeks to highlight the forgotten and underemphasized roles of John the
Baptist and Jesus' brothers James, Simon, Joseph, and Jude, as well a to
present a throughly human portrait of Jesus' mother Mary as the Jewish
mother of seven children.

There is a podcast/recording up at http://www.simonsays.com in which Dr. Tabor
introduces the book in his own words and reads an excerpt. Just follow the
links by clicking on Tabor's book featured on the home page. There are also
quite a few materials archived at the Web site http://www.jesusdynasty.com,
including a Q&Q with Dr. Tabor regarding his book.
