Mother of Aubri II, Comte de Mâcon et Salins

ES apparently lists the parents of Aubri II (Albéric) Comte de Mâcon
et Salins (d. abt 980), as Liétaud II, Comte de Mâcon (d.965), and
Richilde d'Autun. Other sources (some referenced elsewhere in this
group without source attribution) indicate her mother was Ermengarde of
Chalons. Stewart Baldwin's Henry Project web site has the mother
listed as an apparent hybrid: Ermengarde of Autun. What is the
current assessment of his mother's identity?

Constance Brittain Bouchard, "Sword Miter, and Cloister - Nobility and
the Church in Burgundy, 980-1198" (Cornell University Press, 1987), p.
264, in her account of the counts of Mâcon, states that Liétaud's
first wife was Ermengarde, daughter of Manasses (who she says was
"apparently the Count Manasses who was connected to the tenth century
dukes of Burgundy") and Ermengarde, and that they were the parents of
Aubri (Alberic) II. She gives Bertha and Richilda as the names of the
second and third wives of Liétaud, stating that nothing is known of
their families. I just checked two of the Cluny charters she cites
(#432, vol. 1, pp. 420-1; #1124, vol. 2, pp. 215-6) in the published
Cluny charters (fortunately available at the Gallica website; less
fortunately, there is no index), and they verify her statement that
Aubri II was a son of Ermengarde, a daughter of a (not specifically
identified) Manasses and Ermengarde.

The inclusion of the words "of Autun" under Manasses and Ermengarde in
the ancestor list was undoubtedly hasty on my part, and I will remove
those words when I next update the webpages. The next pages added
will be the counts of Anjou back to Fulk/Foulques I, and it should not
be too long now before those pages are uploaded. This will include
Aubri II's maternal grandson count Geoffroy of Gâtinais, but I have
not yet started work on pages for the counts of Mâcon (and there are a
number of other families which will probably come first).
