Dear Newsgroup ~

Archambaud II, seigneur of Sully (died 1234), issued a charter in 1202,
in which he quitclaimed a rent that his grandfather, Archambaud I de
Sully (living 1162), had received from Thibaut II, Count of Blois (died
1152), then mortgaged to Count Thibaut II's son, Henri I, Count of
Champagne (died 1181) [Reference: Theodore Evergates, Littere Baronum
(2003): 75]. Archambaud II referred to Count Henri I as the kinsman of
his grandfather, Archambaud I ("consanguineo suo").

Archambaud I, seigneur of Sully, and Henri I, Count of Champagne, were
in fact first cousins, by virtue of their common descent from Etienne
dit Henri, Count of Blois and Chartres, died 1102, as charted below.

1. Etienne dit Henri, Count of Blois and Chartres, died 1102, married
Adele of England.
2. Guillaume, seigneur of Sully, died before 1150.
3. Archambaud I, seigneur of Sully, living 1162.

1. Etienne dit Henri, Count of Blois and Chartres, died 1102, married
Adele of England.
2. Thibaut II, Count of Blois, died 1152.
3. Henri I, Count of Champagne, died 1181.

Newsgroup posters will recognize Archambaud I de Sully as the brother
of Marguerite de Sully, wife of Henri I, Count of Eu, which Marguerite
is ancestress of Maud of Eu, wife of Humphrey de Bohun, 6th Earl of
Hereford, died 1275 (see Douglas RIchardson, Plantagenet Ancestry,
2004, pp. 118-124, re. the Eu and Bohun families). Archambaud I de
Sully and his sister, Marguerite, were near kinsfolk to the English
royal family through their grandmother, Adele, who was a daughter of
King William the Conqueror.

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
