Dear Newsgroup ~

Countess Isabel de Warenne, widow of Hugh d'Aubeney, Earl of Arundel,
was styled king's kinswoman ["regis cognata"] by the contemporary
chronicler, Matthew Paris (died 1259), in his account of her appeal for
justice to King Henry III of England in 1258 [Reference: Henry R.
Laurd, ed., Mattaei Parisiensis, 5 (Rolls Ser.) (1880): 336-337].
Countess Isabel and King Henry III were related in the 3rd and 3rd
degrees of kindred, or if you prefer 2nd cousins, by common descent
from Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou, Duke of Normandy (died
1151), as charted below:

1. Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou, Duke of Normandy, died 1151.
2. King Henry II of England, died 1189.
3. King John of England, died 1216.
4. King Henry III of England, died 1272.

1. Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou, Duke of Normandy, died 1151.
2. Hamelin, Earl of Surrey, died 1202.
3. William de Warenne, Earl of Surrey, died 1240.
3. Isabel de Warenne, married Hugh d'Aubeney, Earl of Arundel.
