In-laws!

I have been following the son-in-law threads with great interest.

I have a situation which causes a headache, following the terminology of the
time.

In February 1598, in Bebington, Cheshire, my ancestor was a widower and
married a widow. On the same day, in the same church, his son by his first
wife, married the widow's daughter.

So now, (I think):
The father has a son who is also, by the status of the time, his son-in-law,
and a step-daughter, who is also his daughter-in-law.
The father's wife has a step-son who is also her son-in-law.
The son has now got a step-mother, who is also his mother-in-law.
The son's wife has a step-father who is also her father-in-law.

The son's wife dies, as does his father. The son re-marries in 1607, and
dies in 1613. In his 1613 will, he puts his mother-in-law, (also his
step-mother), in charge of his household, and lists debts owing by his
current mother-in-law, mother of his wife who is still living in 1613.

What a nightmare to sort out!

Regards,
Yvonne
