Dear Newsgroup~

King Louis VII of France, died 1180, referred to Waleran II, Count of
Meulan, died 1166, as his kinsman ("cognatus meus") [Reference: A.
Luchaire, Études sur les actes de Louis VII (1885): 224]. The two men
were related in the 3rd and 3rd degrees of kindred, or if you prefer
second cousins, by virtue of their common descent from King Henri I of
France, died 1060, as charted below.

1. King Henri I of France, died 1060.
2. King Philippe I of France, died 1108.
3. King Louis VI of France, died 1137.
4. King Louis VII of France, died 1180.

1. King Henri I of France, died 1060.
2. Hugh the Great, Count of Vermandois & Valois, died 1101.
3. Isabel (or Elizabeth) de Vermandois, married (1st) Robert de
Beaumont, Earl of Leicester, Count of Meulan.
4. Waleran II, Count of Meulan, Earl of Worcester, died 1166.

Parties who are interested in reading more about Count Waleran II may
wish to consult the following sources: E. King, "Waleran, count of
Meulan and earl of Worcester (1104-66)" in D. Greenway ed. Tradition
and Change: Essays in Honour of Marjorie Chibnall (1985); and, David
Crouch, The Beaumont Twins: The Roots and Branches of Power in the
Twelfth Century (1986). Count Waleran's younger twin brother was
Robert de Beaumont, Earl of Leicester.

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
