Stephen Hopkins (apparently only one who have been to Jamestown colony
then back to England to take custody of his 3 children and went with the
Pilgrims to Plymouth colony).

Stephen Hopkins was of Hursley, Hampshire, England
wife was Mary, who died 1613 in Hursley
They had 3 children...
Elizabeth, 13 Mar 1604, unmarried
Constance, 11 May 1606, married Nicholas Snow
Giles, 30 Jan 1607/8, married Catherine Whelden

I have been in contact with Caleb Johnson on this. He and I do have ONE
question - how did Constance Dudley (real person) comes to be the mother
of the children in first place..... Constance is daughter of Robert
Dudley and Anne Wood, born London England 1 Jan 1579, died ?

to fuel this.. Constance and Giles are not the Christian names normally
given to children of a minister from Hampshire. There was a Sir Giles
Hobby right in Hursley. Wife was Elizabeth Poulett. Giles went to
Jamestown with Stephen Hopkins.... oh well... Stephen is son of John
Hopkins and Elizabeth Williams. Mary is daughter of WHO? There may be a
connection with the Dudleys when Stephen was in London after his return
from Jamestown and already gone to reclaim his 3 mother-less children.

There isn't much to be found of Sir Giles Hoby/Hobby so far.

Apparently, the marriage record for Stephen Hopkins & Mary does not
survive.

The recent article about the probable parents of Stephen Hopkins
included a search of a great number of surrounding parishes - & he did
not find their marriage.
The problem is that so many parish registers in Hampshire begin late.

Ah, the mystery of the birds and the bees...

Who says that Stephen Hopkins was a minister? The names may simply
reflect a connection with the Hoby family, anywhere from tenantry
seeking to flatter the squire, or a friendship whereby Giles stood as
godfather to the child, giving it his name.

There was a Sir Giles
Hobby right in Hursley. Wife was Elizabeth Poulett.

Although the Elizabeth Paulet - Giles Hoby marriage is supported by,
inter alia, VCH Somerset, sub Cossington, according to VCH Hants, sub
Hursley, Giles Hoby of Hursley was married to Anne Clarke (in 1600 he
sold the manor of Merdon to his father-in-law, Thomas Clarke and in a
1622 exemplification his wife is called Anne [58M71/E/T5,12, Hants
RO]). Additionally, I am not persuaded that he was a knight: the 1622
exemplification and his probate record at Winchester (1626
Administration #76) refer to him as Giles Hoby, Esquire.

Giles went to
Jamestown with Stephen Hopkins.... oh well... Stephen is son of John

There's plenty if you look. No doubt the manorial records for Hursley
would give much more information; those for the manor of Merdon are
held at the Hampshire Record Office, largely catalogued under the
papers of the Heathcote family.
