Dear Newsgroup ~

Charles III (died 929), King of the West Franks, referred to Count
Hugues I of Maine as his kinsman ("dilectus comes Hugo consanguineus')
in charter dated 900 [Reference: Veterum Scriptorum et Monumentorum, 1
(1724): 255-256 - Rodhildis, mother of Count Hugh, also mentioned].
The two were related in the 2nd and 2nd degrees of kindred, or if you
prefer first cousins, by virtue of their common descent from Charles II
the Bald, King of the West Franks, Emperor, died 877, as charted below.

1. Charles II the Bald, King of the West Franks, Emperor, died 877.
2. King Louis II the Stammerer, died 879.
3. King Charles III the Simple, died 929.

1. Charles II the Bald, King of the West Franks, Emperor, died 877.
2. Rothilde, married Roger, Count of Maine.
3. Hugues I, Count of Maine.

To the Newsgroup:

In order for these WIRTWL's to have genealogical value, the links
between the generations on the list must be proven with original
sources. In this case, what are the original sources (remember,
anybody with access to the internet can use secondary sources, so they
are of no value genealogically) to prove that -
(1) Charles the Bald had a daughter, Rothilde;
(2) if Charles the Bald had a daughter, Rothilde, she married Roger,
count of Maine;
(3) if Rothilde married Roger, count of Maine, she was the mother of
Hugh I, count of Maine.
