Sir John Fortesque, Sheriff of Hertford in 1481

Stirnet here
http://www.stirnet.com/HTML/genie/briti ... 2.htm#son1

states that Sir John Fortesque, who was Sheriff of Hertford in 1481
was also the son of John Fortesque by Alice Bullen.

From previous discussion this Alice is the daughter of Sir Geoffrey Bullen
(or Boleyn), Lord Mayor of London d 1471 by his wife Anne Hoo.

Anne is stated "aged 30 or more" at her father's death 13 Feb 1454/5

If we place Ann as born abt 1425, her grandson John Fortesque is perhaps a
bit precocious to be Sheriff of Hertford and Essex in 1481, when at the very
maximum limit (two 13-year old mothers) he could be 30 years old, and more then
likely a decade younger than this.

Appreciate any comments on this alledged connection.

Dear Will,

Sir John Fortescue and Alice Boleyn were the parents of Sir Adrian
Fortescue, whose dates in the DNB are c.1481-1539; so it does look
highly doubtful. I have it that Alice Boleyn's husband Sir John was
sheriff of Cornwall in 1471 and died in 1500- he was of Hertfordshire
too, so maybe he was the sheriff in question?

It appears that the Stirnet site has wrongly identifed the Sir John
Fortescue who was Sheriff of Herts [and Essex} in 1481. In Lord Clermont's
"History of the Family of Fortescue", the Sir John who mar. Alice Bullen [or
Boleyn] was the Sheriff in 1481 and again in 1486, and not his son Sir John.
(The elder Sir John is not to be confused with his brother also named Sir
John, although it's not clear from Clermont which of the two brothers was
the elder - too many Johns in this family!!)

See also, for a summary of what's in Clermont on this family:
