Dunno about anyone else, but I'm fed up with these Google-ads.

Now that's not true, is it? I've given content on: Bury of Culham; from
Hanover to Windsor; the possible origins of East and West Hurst; the
price of medieval sheep; the history of Turbeville, SC, USA; and
something on Rainald de Dunstanville.

All you seem to spout is a pile of Googled-books, without much
indication as to what these books contain. I mean, who on earth was Lady
Witham-Jopson-Bolles? Why does anyone want to consult a Googled book to
find the use of the name Penelope in New England?

Context, my friend, context.

For those who know what my postings concern (and some people do,
believe it or not), they are fairly interesting. You too could do a
simple search in the archives and come up with a context, I'm sure.

There have been so few postings of interest lately that it's
counterproductive to denigrate anyone's offerings ...

I know, but what we like are names, connections, marriages. Something
more than just a huge URL. Wee bit of context, then your URL. Sommat to
catch the eye!

I have found a lot of John Brandon's finds on Google Books very useful,
though I do agree a one-line intro saying what the book is and who it
relates to would also be helpful - particularly for those in the UK and
elsewhere who have to go through proxy servers to see much of the content.

Oh, yeah, I forgot that y'all had to do that extra step ...

Genealogical practice for you Merkins is different from the way we Brits
do it.

We Brits descend from agricultural labourers, students of music and
court dressmakers, with only an outside chance of finding some gentry or
aristocracy, unless we get back to the late medieval period (fairly
unusual in British genealogy), when it become more likely.

You Merkins have nice stockpiles of gateway ancestors: Mayflower
descendants; Daughters of the Revolution; - in other words, many of your
early names are already familiar to you.

We Brits don't often get that far. Maybe, just maybe, a name along with
a date and place might ring a bell for us, but a name and a long Google
URL means little.

I'm just curious. Of the 102 Mayflower passengers, a list of whom can
be found at:

http://members.aol.com/calebj/passenger.html

Exactly how many and which ones are descended from Edward I or the
other medieval English monarchs?

I know that there has been much research attempting to link Miles
Standish with the Lancashire gentry Standishes, but nothing conclusive
has turned up. Aside from Standish the military leader, were William
Bradford the governor and William Brewster the religious leader the
highest ranking members of the Pilgrims? Do they descend from the
Plantagenets?

Cheers, --------Brad
