I'm trying to connect a few fragments of pedigrees of the family of Bury of Culham, Oxfordshire. Any assistance or leads will be appreciated.
The wife of Sir Cecil Bishopp, 4th Baronet, of Parham, is indicated in the Complete Baronetage to be Sarah (1650-1679), dau. of George Bury of Culham (for whom no wife is given by CB). Pedigrees for the family of Bury of Culham in the 1566 visitation of Berkshire and the 1566 and 1574 visitation of Oxford end with John Bury of Culnaham [sic] who mar. Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas Stafford of Bradfield, and [as of 1566] "as yet hath no issue". [Elizabeth Stafford subsequently mar. Edward Wilmot of Culham, by whom she was mother of the 1st Viscount Wilmot and grandmother of the 1st Earl of Rochester]
A fragment of a pedigree in the LDS Ancestral File (admittedly not documented) suggests the following possible, and partial, connection - which at least fits chronologically:
George Bury of Culham (b. ca. 1621), son of
William Bury of Culham (by his wife Anne, dau. of Robert Sprignell of Highgate, Middlesex), son of
Thomas Bury of Culham (by his wife Judith [d. 6 May 1656 aged 88], dau. of Laurence Humphrey)
It's possible that Thomas was a son of John Bury and Elizabeth Stafford (or perhaps John's brother - a brother Thomas is mentioned in the visitation pedigreees), but I have no evidence for this conjecture.
Can anyone add anything to link together these pieces?

Re: BURY of Culham, Oxfordshire
Thanks for noting the 1573 will of Anne [Sprignell] Bury, which confirms the
connection to the Bishopp family. Anne Sprignell was apparently the sister
of Sir Richard Sprignell, 1st Baronet, and there is a bit on his family in
the Complete Baronetage, v. 2, as well as a pedigree in vol. 65 of the
Harleian Society visitation series.
You mention that Thomas Bury, son of John Bury and Elizabeth Stafford, died
100 years before Anne Sprignell Bury. When I originally posted I was just
speculating that Thomas Bury, the father-in-law of Anne Sprignell, was a son
of John Bury and Elizabeth Stafford, since I had no evidence that they had
any children (and I still don't). It seemed to work because Thomas' wife
Judith Humphrey was said to have d. 1656 aged 88 - thus being born ca. 1568.
If her husband was roughly the same age, this could place him
chronologically as a son of John Bury and Elizabeth Statford. But I can't
confirm this. Do you have sources saying that John and Elizabeth did have a
son Thomas and indicating when specifically he died?
FWIW I notice that the National Archives list a will of 21 Dec 1614 for
'Thomas Bury of Culham". I wonder if this is the son [or brother?] of John
Bury....

Thomas Bury, son of John/Elizabeth Stafford, sold the lordship of the
manor of Water Eaton to William Frere of Oxford in 1590. (DNB
Oxfordshire (online).) So we know he was living at or after that date. I
agree on the chronology as a possible father-in-law to Anne Sprignell,

Re: BURY of Culham, Oxfordshire
Thanks for the information on Thomas Bury, son of John and Elizabeth
Stafford. It seems reasonable, although not firmly established, that he was
the Thomas who made his will in 1614. Aside from his will mentioning a wife
Judith, I have no evidence that his wife was Judith Humphrey, aside from the
mention of a wife of that name in the Ancestral File - which is clearly
unsupported. Equally unsupported at present is the AF connection that
Thomas and Judith had a son William who mar. Alice Sprignell. It now looks
reasonable based on chronology, but it needs more research.

yet
hath no issue". [Elizabeth Stafford subsequently mar. Edward Wilmot of
Culham, by whom she was mother of the 1st Viscount Wilmot and
grandmother of
the 1st Earl of Rochester]
A fragment of a pedigree in the LDS Ancestral File (admittedly not
documented) suggests the following possible, and partial, connection -
which
at least fits chronologically:
George Bury of Culham (b. ca. 1621), son of
William Bury of Culham (by his wife Anne, dau. of Robert Sprignell of
Highgate, Middlesex), son of
Thomas Bury of Culham (by his wife Judith [d. 6 May 1656 aged 88], dau.
of Laurence Humphrey)
It's possible that Thomas was a son of John Bury and Elizabeth Stafford
(or perhaps John's brother - a brother Thomas is mentioned in the
visitation
pedigreees), but I have no evidence for this conjecture.
Can anyone add anything to link together these pieces?
George Bury of Culham (bc 1621) was son of William Bury by Anne
Sprignell. This is proved by Anne Bury's will, which names her
granddaughter, "Dame Sarah Bishopp". She also names her son Thomas Bury,
who was executor of her will in 1673. The Thomas, son of John Bury and
Elizabeth Stafford was of a different generation, dying 100 years before
Ann Sprignall Bury.
