I've just started reading ( in translation) "1066- the hidden history of the Bayeux tapestry" by Andrew Bridgeford, C2004.How trustworthy is this? Has a member of the group read this book? There's an impressive bibliography at the end of the volume.

You might do better with this on soc.history.medieval, but I read the
book and enjoyed it. The author is an amateur, but he has done his
research well. There is a fair amount of educated speculation in the
book but it is clear where this is the case. The whole Eustace thing is
his pet theory.

If you are interested, the best recent account is "The Bayeux Tapestry"
by Lucien Musset, translated by Richard Rex.
