I come from a very tiny town in South Carolina called Turbeville. It
is the surname of a few locals. Does anyone know the history behind
this name and who the Turbevilles were?

The Town of Turbeville is located in Clarendon County, South Carolina at
the intersection of Highways 301 and 378.

In 1840 Michael Turbeville bought 125 acres of land one mile
north of the present Town limits in Diles Bay and built a home on this
property. Sometime between 1870 and 1875, William J. Turbeville, son of
Michael, purchased approximately 200 acres from John McFaddin and built
the first house in what is now the Town of Turbeville. His brother,
Clem, likewise bought land and built next to William.

The first white settlers in the area, now known as Clarendon County,
were French Huguenots who came up the Santee River.

You should try an internet search engine, like Google.
