Meaning of "generosus"

Legg inn av Gjest » 15 feb 2006 16:23:09

I found two documents from the 1490 that each describe a man as
"generosus". One was a prominent member of the gentry, and in the
document he was a witness at the trial of a cleric for simony. The
other was to a man appointed to be a manorial bailiff.

In this context, what does "generosus" imply?

Gjest
