Campbell, Lamont and MacDonald redux

Hello All,

Recently I had suggested a solution to the documented
consanguinity between several members of the Lamont, Campbell
and MacDonald families which appear best explained by a con-
jectured marriage between Sir John mac Malcolm Lamont and an
otherwise unknown daughter of Angus Og (mac Angus Mor) mac
Donald [1].

Evidence has been found in a dispensation which, while
not proving the foregoing conjecture, does provide additional
circumstantial evidence. Hector MacLean, a son of Lachlan
Maclean of Duart and his wife Mary ?de Insulis? (daughter of
Eoin, or ?John the Good?, Lord of the Isles) had a dispensation
dated at Avignon on 30 May 1393 to marry Mor Campbell, daughter
of Sir Colin Mor (?Iongantach?) Campbell and his wife Mariota
Campbell, as follows:

? Reg. Aven 272, 403
To the bishop of Sodor. Faculty to dispense Hector
Macgileeom, donzel, and Mor, daughter of Calen Cambel,
damsel, of Sodor and Argyll dioceses, from the
impediment to marriage arising from the third and
fourth degrees of consanguinity. Notwithstanding
their knowledge of this impediment, they have
espoused themselves to be married, without subsequent
consummation, in order to establish peace and harmony
among their families and friends, whereas until now
there have only been wars, dissensions, murders and
other grave scandals.
Avignon, 3 Kal. Jun., anno 15.
SRO Vat. Trans., iv, no. 61 ? [2]

If my original conjecture concerning the above Lamont-
MacDonald marriage is correct, the relationship between Hector
MacLean and Mary of the Isles (3rd and 4th degree) would result
from common descent from Angus Og mac Donald, as shown in the
following chart [together with other identified related parties;
conjectured relationships shown thus: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ]:

Angus Og = Agnes O?Cathain
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _I________
I I
Sir John mac = NN, a dau. Eoin, Lord of the Isles
Malcolm Lamont I = Margaret Stewart
__________I______ _________I_____
I I I I
Isabella Duncan Donald, Lord Mary = Lachlan
= Archibald Lamont of the Isles ?de I MacLean
Campbell I I Insulis? I (m. ca.

Sir Colin Robert = Agnes ?de insulis? I
?Iongantach? Lamont I (m. bef 30 Oct 1397) I

Colin Campbell = Christina Lamont Mor = Hector

___________I________ (m. aft 30 May 1393)
I I
Agnes Iain ' Riabhiach '
m. Sir Patrick laird of
Houstoun Ardkinglas

This would also support the conjectured relationships of
Colin Campbell of Ardkinglas and his wife Christina Lamont
(4th and 4th degrees, through conjectured common descent from
Angus Og, as well as the 3rd and 3rd degree relationship
through their Lamont ancestry [3]) and of Robert Lamont and his
wife Agnes ?de Insulis? (3rd degree [4]).

Comments, criticism and additional documentation are
welcome as always.

Cheers,

John
