Hudlestons

I applaud the proposal to pool knowledge of the Hudlestons.

My interest is in Jane Hudleston, allegedly daughter of
Richard, who married Sir William Torbock (c. 1399-by
1447), of Tarbock in Huyton, Lancashire. Ancestors of
American settlers Oliver Mainwaring and Anna Maria Gill.

Jane's father may have been Sir Richard Hudleston
of Millom Castle, Cumberland, under age 1398, at Agin-
court 1415, banneret, who married Anne or Margaret
Harington. But there was a branch of the family at West
Hall, in Whittington, Lancashire, in which the name
Richard also occurred in this period.

Great - I'll make a start shortly then, Brice. It seems there are a
good number of Hudleston strands to tie in.

I shall aim to get to the Society of Genealogists later this week, but
am off to the Isle of Man for a couple of days not long afterwards so
may not be able to post material immediately. Sir Richard of Millom,
who served at Agincourt, is supposed to be the father of Agnes,
ancestress to the Docwra family. His wife, I believe, was Katherine
Harington, daughter of Sir Nicholas Harington MP, but as the latter's
HoP entry does not mention any daughters, I would need to verify this
too.

VHC Lancs III:180 (footnote IIRC, but I haven't verified) supposes the wife
of William Torbock d. 1447 to be Cecliy le Norreys d. aft 1478, daughter of
Sir Henry le Norreys of Speke d. abt. 1431 and his wife Alice Erneys,
daughter of Roger Erneys and his wife Jane Molyneux. Is this identity by VCH
erroneous?

Thanks,

Hap
