Humphrey Shyrley, d c1477; Isabel Foscote, d 1487

My enquiry last week about the Cowleys and Colyers hasn't produced
anything, but I'm hoping someone may know something about the Humphrey
Shyrley who married Isabel Foscote, widow of Richard Foscote, in about
1446 and died in about 1477.

I know nothing about this Humphrey Shyrley except that during his
marriage to Isabel Foscote he held a copyhold yardland (a farm of 36
acres) in Great Horwood in north Buckinghamshire in her right (she
survived him and held the yardland for a further 10 years, until her own
death in 1487). He didn't live in Great Horwood and almost certainly
didn't farm the land himself; in fact I suspect him of being something
more than a mere husbandman - I think he was at least a yeoman and
possibly a wealthy townsman or minor gentleman. Isabel's first husband,
Richard Foscote, sems to have been from a similar background - he was a
member of a family based in Bradwell, about seven miles to the
northeast, so the Great Horwood holding was presumably just an outlying
appendage of a larger estate.

Any scrap of information about this Humphrey Shyrley -who he was, where
he came from - will be gratefully received.
