King's Kinsfolk: King Charles I of Sicily & his cousin, Will

Dear Newsgroup ~

Charles I (also known as Charles of Anjou), King of Sicily and
Jerusalem (died 1285), referred to Guillaume de Beaujeu, Grand Master
of the Order of the Temple, as his "kinsman" [Reference: Barber,
The New Knighthood: A History of the Order of the Temple (1994): 169].
The two men were related in the 3rd and 3rd degrees of kindred (or by
modern parlance, 2nd cousins), by virtue of their common descent from
Baldwin V, Count of Hainault and Flanders (died 1195):

1. Baldwin V, Count of Hainault & Flanders (died 1195).
2. Isabelle of Flanders, married Philippe II August, King of France.
3. Louis VIII, King of France.
4. Charles I, King of Sicily and Jerusalem.

1. Baldwin V, Count of Hainault & Flanders (died 1195).
2. Sibylle of Flanders, married Guichard IV, seigneur of Beaujeu.
3. Guichard de Beaujeu, seigneur of Montpensier.
4. Guillaume de Beaujeu, Grand Master of the Order of the Temple

King's Kinsfolk: King Philippe III of France & his cousin, H

Dear Newsgroup ~

In a post earlier this evening, I noted that King Charles I of Sicily
referred to Guillaume de Beaujeu, Grand Master of the Order of the
Temple, as his "kinsman." Another similar kinship may be noted in the
will of King Philippe III of France, in which Philippe III referred to
Humbert de Beaujeu, Constable of France, as his cousin [Reference:
Carolus-Barré, Le Procès de Canonisation de Saint Louis (1994):
142-151, 167]. King Philippe III and Humbert de Beaujeu were related
in the 3rd and 4th degrees of kindred (or by modern parlance, 2nd
cousins once removed) by virtue of their common descent from Baldwin V,
Count of Hainault and Flanders (died 1195):

1. Baldwin V, Count of Hainault & Flanders (died 1195).
2. Isabelle of Flanders, married Philippe II August, King of France.
3. Louis VIII, King of France.
4. Louis IX, King of France.
5. Philippe III, King of France (died 1285).

1. Baldwin V, Count of Hainault & Flanders (died 1195).
2. Sibylle of Flanders, married Guichard IV, seigneur of Beaujeu.
3. Guichard de Beaujeu, seigneur of Montpensier.
4. Humbert de Beaujeu, seigneur of Montpensier, Constable of France
(died 1285).

For a depiction of the coat of arms of Humbert de Beaujeu and also of
his father, Guichard de Beaujeu, please see the following weblink:

Newsgroup posters will be interested to learn that Jacquette de
Luxembourg, wife of Sir Richard de Wydeville, 1st Earl Rivers, is a
lineal descendant of Agnès de Beaujeu, who was the aunt of Humbert de
Beaujeu, Constable of France, and of his brother, Guillaume de Beaujeu,
Grand Master of the Order of the Temple.
