Daughters of the 2nd Earl of Cumberland

These are easier to work out than the daughters of the 1st Earl of
Cumberland.

Henry Clifford, 2nd Earl of Cumberland, born about 1517, married 1st,
1537 (contracted 1533), Lady Eleanor Brandon, granddaughter of Henry
VII, who died 27 Sept. 1547, leaving an only surviving child:

1) Lady Margaret Clifford, born 1540, married 12 February 1555, Henry
Stanley, 4th Earl of Derby, and died 29 September 1596, having had
issue.

The 2nd Earl was said to be so shocked when given news of his first
wife's death, that he fainted and was taken for dead himself, reviving
as his attendants were making embalming arrangements! This didn't stop
him from fathering two illegitimate daughters, often left out of
pedigrees. If the 1553 date of marriage for Joan, given by 'House of
Clifford' is correct, she had to have been born during the 2nd Earl's
first marriage. The other daughter Elizabeth was likely born between
the 2nd Earl's two marriages:

2) Joan Clifford, married 1553, Edward Birkbeck. [Note: most likely
the Edward Birkbeck of Temple Sowerby, Westmorland (a Clifford manor),
who died 1601 and left a will.]

3) Elizabeth Clifford, born about 1548-50, married April 1567, as his
1st wife, Benjamin Lambert, of Calton Hall, Yorkshire (b. April 1543,
d. 30 Sept. 1598), son and heir of John Lambert, of Calton Hall, by his
1st wife Elizabeth Lambert of Owton, and died (date unknown, likely by
1575), having had an only child, Henry Lambert, who died young.

The 2nd Earl married 2nd, 1552/3, Anne Dacre (d. July 1581), daughter
of William, Lord Dacre and Elizabeth Talbot, and died 2 January 1570,
having had three more daughters:

4) Lady Frances Clifford, born 1555, married 1577, Philip Wharton, 3rd
Lord Wharton (d. 1625), and died 1592, leaving issue.

5) Lady Mary Clifford, born 1556, died in infancy.

6) Lady Eleanor Clifford, born 1557, died unmarried 1573; buried
Appleby.
