Dear Leo

You might care to forward this to your newsgroup:

The opinions expressed by Alan Brooks and Matt Tompkins amount to a view that there is some kind of moral equivalence between Douglas Richardson and Leo van de Pas. If this position _can_ be argued, they should have the courage to do so rather than fudging the question with platitudes.

Richardson has long made a habit of setting out absurd postulations as if these were worthy of respectful attention from the newsgroup. Respectful responses to these ploys from people like Brooks and Tompkins vindicate him in this contempt for the intelligence of the readers.

Even if judgement were to be reserved on the substance of the inane controversies that Richardson raises and perpetuates, the methods he emplyos in this fishing strategy are surely beneath contempt to real scholars and other people of principle.

Why do the lurkers mostly keep quiet, or occasionally find a voice only to insist on mutual respect, when one side is so clearly undeserving of this in substance, even if both sides may be thought so in the style of pursuing a controversy? The object is to put truth on the record, and not to leave a smear of falsehood over the trail towards this.

There are an eithical question that Brooks, Tompkins and their numerous fellow readers should feel bound to consider and to answer before they take refuge in polite but untested irresolution on the matter.
