Who were the ancestors of the Bedale FitzAlans?

Keats-Rohan has come up with some very interesting solutions to the
conundrum of who were the ancestors of the FitzAlans of Bedale. A
very lengthy search through her naming system (it took me the best
part of 3/4 of an hour) gave the four principal people in Domesday
People (DP) and Domesday Descendants (DD):

Bodin . . . . . . . . . . . . . DD 168 }
Bardolf frater comitis Alani . . DD 988 } Brothers

Acarius filius Bardulfi . . . . DD 871-2 } Probable brothers,
Scolland Dapifer . . . . . . . . DD 257-8 } sons of Bardolf

To this I have joined the FitzAlan of Bedale descent from Scolland
originally proposed by C T Clay in 1931 and ending with the assertion
that nothing was known of Scolland's forebears. Clay published this
in Yorkshire Archaeological Journal with the title "Notes on the
Origin of the FitzAlans of Bedale", vol xxx, pp. 281-290. Again
copies of this are available for those doing serious research.

The following is the pedigree of the relevant players; I have put
some numbers in the right hand of this in square brackets to indicate
points that need discussion.

[1] Scolland was steward of an earl of Richmond, but which earl?
===========================================================
It is said by Keats-Rohan that Bodin and Bardolf were a half
brothers of Count Alan Rufus who was lord of Richmond and died
sp (CP X,780) in 1089. She also says that Scolland was Steward
to count Stephen, also lord of Richmond and who died c. 1135.

Clay says that Scolland was steward to count Alan III, son of
Stephen and also lord of Richmond from 1137-46 when he died.

Scolland seems to have died around the 1140s and was buried at
Castle Acre priory (where?).

[2] Was Eudo the father of Bodin and Bardolf?
========================================
Keats-Rohan writes of Bodin in DP 168-9:

"Half brother of Count Alan Rufus, full brother of Bardolf, and
natural son of Eudo brother of Alan III of Brittany. He is
described as brother of Bardulf in a charter of Odo Camerarius
(EYC v, no 279)."

Clay goes a bit further than this, saying, V 199, that some of
Bardolf's gifts to St Mary's, York were confirmed in a charter
by Henry II. Further he refers to charter No 1 of EYC vol IV
where among the witnesses is explicitly "Ribaldus et Bardulfus
fratres comitis". Ribald is better known as an illegitimate
son of Eudo and received the fee of Middleham, and became
ancestor of the FitsRandolphs of Middleham and by them also of
the Nevilles of Middleham and Raby. Clay concludes that Bodin
and Bardolf were "doubtless illegitimate sons of count Eudo of
Penthievre".

[3] Was Scolland the son of Bardolf?
===============================
This the tricky one. What has been long known is that Scolland
had the Bedale fee which had been Bodin's and then Bardolf's.
Clay passes on, YAJ xxx 286, the suggestion in VCH for Yorks
that Scolland married a daughter of Bodin and thereby got half
Bodin's holdings, but Clay does not endorse this and says his
origin is unknown and gives no explanation of how he acquired
the Bedale fee.

Keats-Rohan goes one small step further and says the Bedale fee
had been held by Bardolf who divided his holdings, Ravensworth
to his elder son Acarias and Bedale to the younger Scolland.

The rest of the descent is much simpler. Brian is known to be
a son of Scolland in EYC V charter 23 which they both witnessed
and in EYC V charter 295 where Brien filius Scollandi was the
donor and his sons Alan, Henry and Michael were witnesses. The
best account of the rest of the FitzAlans is in the above
referenced YAJ xxx, 281-290.

[4] Who was the father of the wife of Alan son of Brian?
===================================================
Keats-Rohan calls her Agnes, for which Clay had said there was
no evidence. I have already raised the issue of whether her
father was Geoffrey or Bertram.
