Buchan's Mistress=Murray or Hepburn?

Some online records indicate that Margaret, the mistress of James
Stewart, 1st Earl of Buchan (3rd creation, 1469), and mother by him of
Agnes, Countess of Bothwell (mistress of James IV), was by birth
surnamed Murray, others that she was a Hepburn, and still others imply
that her maiden name remains unknown.

One version says all known of her is that she was the wife of William
Murray "of the house of Philphaugh", who died in 1464.

Another says she was born c.1446 to Patrick Murray, who had been born
c.1422 in Falahill, Eddleston, Peeblesshire, Scotland, and that it was
her younger brother (born c.1448) who was named William Murray.

Still another opines that by birth she was "Lady Margaret Hepburn",
widow in 1464 of "William de Murray (Moravia) of the lands of
Traquair".

Yet another simply describes her as "Mrs. Margaret Murray" without
specifying either her parentage or husband.

Which version, if any, is correct?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

According to the Scots Peerage, she was Margaret Murray, widow of
William Murray.

Her son James was granted Traquair, but I believe that it was
previously in Royal possession.

I think that the connection with Falahill is through a misreading or
elaboration of a comment on Vol II, p156 sub Hepburn, earl of Bothwell

Any indication that this William Murray was Patrick's son? Kinsman?

Her son James was granted Traquair, but I believe that it was

If he received a royal grant of Traquair, any indication that he was
legitimated by his father the Earl of Buchan? Or by the King (as was
his sister Agnes Stewart Countess of Bothwell 31 October 1552,
following the death of her daughter Janet by James IV who had in 1551
borne a natural son, Henri d'Angouleme, to King Henri II de Valois)?

I understand that Patrick Murray of Falahill's son and heir, John
Murray, took as his second wife Margaret Hepburn, daughter of the 1st
Earl of Bothwell. Is it likely that this "Margaret Murray" is being
confused with the "Margaret Murray" of unknown parentage who was the
wife of William Murray, of no identified relationship to the Murrays of
Falahill and Philiphaugh?
