William Byrd born 1543

Hello!

Could somebody please clarify where, in 1543, William Byrd was
born...Catholic,
organist, poet and composer of beautiful sacred music, organist in the
Chapel Royal
along with his music teacher Thomas Tallis in the reign of Elizabeth I.
I know that he was protected sometimes, by his rich Patron, Lord Petre
of Ingatestone Hall, Essex, also a very staunch Catholic, who had land in
Essex,
but also had a swag of it in Devon where in 1782, my Mary Bird was married
in
the Wolborough Street Salem Chapel Independent, Newton Abbot. Yes...that
came as a surprise to me.

I cannot find his wife: LDS gave Clementem Sannder
- Clementine Saunders I presume, who married William Byrd 17 Jan 1563
Ingatestone,Essex. I couldn't find a church in Ingatestone in which they may
have
married and thought that perhaps the couple were married by a Catholic
priest in I
ngatestone Hall because of the Puritanical nonsense going on in England at
the time.
Elizabeth it was who told them to lay off William who was being given a bad
time.

Another bio gave his wife as Juliana or Julian, no surname. Don't know where
he married her.He was the father of seven children: Christopher 1569:
Elizabeth 1572:
Rachell 1574: Mary: Catherine: Twins Thomas (godfather Tallis) and Edward
1576, both died
in early childhood. But which wife gave birth to which children, or did only
one wife give him
the lot?
Any help would be very welcome.

Cheers

The online Grove's lists London as his birthplace. His age is deduced
from an October 1598 deposition which lists it as "58 yeares or ther
abouts." His father was Thomas Byrd, gent., of whom little is known,
and his oldest brother, Symond, was granted arms in 1571. It cites
J. Harley: 'New Light on William Byrd', ML, lxxix (1998), 475-88,
as the source for the London birth.

Sincerely,
Kelsey J. Williams
