Queen Mary Tudor referred to Francis Talbot, 5th Earl of Shrewsbury, as
her "Cousin and Counsaillour" in a letter addressed to him dated 2 June
1557 [Reference: Manuscripts of J. Eliot Hodgkin (Hist. MSS Comm. 15th
Rep., Appendix, Pt. 2) (1897): 30-31].

Queen Mary and Earl Francis Talbot were related twice in the 4th and
5th degrees of kinship (i.e., 3rd cousins once removed) by common
descent from Ralph Neville, K.G., Earl of Westmorland, and his wife,
Joan Beaufort, as follows:

1. Ralph Neville, K.G., Earl of Westmorland, married (2nd) Joan
Beaufort.
2. Cecily Neville, married Richard Plantagenet, K.G., 3rd Duke of York.
3. Edward IV, King of England, married Elizabeth Wydeville.
4. Elizabeth Plantagenet, married Henry VII, King of England.
5. Henry VIII, King of England, married Katherine of Aragon.
6. Queen Mary Tudor.
