Henry, Son of Sir Richard Arundel

Douglas Richardson's PA3, sub Arundel, states (p. 41): "He [Sir Richard
Arundel, son of Sir John Arundel and Eleanor Mautravers] married before
1407 Alice ______, widow of Roger Burley, Esq., of Birley,
Herefordshire (died 1399). They had one son, Henry, and three
daughters, Philippe, Joan, and Eleanor (wife of William St. George,
Knt.)."

Does anyone have further information on the son, Henry Arundel, or know
which source mentions him?

In the 1480-1500 Visitation of the North pedigree of Neville, "Alicia
nupta domino Thome Gray militi postea Gilberto de Lancaster militi" has
an unnamed daughter "nupta Arundell". And in the Henry VII Relations
pedigrees of about 1505, Alice Nevill and her 1st husband Sir Thomas
Grey are given an unnamed daughter "wedded to Arundel".

As I can't imagine the Northumberland Grays marrying into the Arundells
of Cornwall, I would deduce its the Fitzalan Arundels that they married
their daughter into.

At first I thought that Sir Richard Arundel married the unnamed
daughter of Sir Thomas Gray and Alice Nevill from the pedigree, as his
wife's name was Alice and her parentage is unknown. But Alice Arundel
was a mother by 1399 in her first marriage, and Sir Thomas Gray was
born in 1384, so she could not have been his unnamed daughter.

It was probably Sir Richard Arundel's son Henry who was the groom. Sir
Thomas Gray (1384-1415) was constable of Bamburgh Castle,
Northumberland, from August 1404 to May 1408. Sir Richard Arundel
received a grant to be constable of Bamburgh on 14 August 1403, which
he then surrendered the following year, when Sir Thomas Gray took over.
And then in 1408, after Sir Thomas Gray ceased being constable of
Bamburgh Castle, Sir Richard Arundel again obtained a grant of it. It
was likely around this time that Arundel married his son and heir Henry
to Gray's daughter.

If anyone knows anything further about this Henry Arundel, I'd love to
hear it.

Cheers, -------Brad
