Edward Bruce of Blairhall and his wife Alison Reid are the parents of
Sir George Bruce of Carnock, he died 6 May 1625. He bought Carnock from Sir A. Lindsay, therefor he has to be the first George Bruce of Carnock.
Sir George married Margaret Primrose daughter of Archibald Primrose of Burnbrae.
Their son George Bruce of Carnock (not a Sir) married Mary Preston an their son Edward became Earl of Kincardine.
Source Burke's Peerage 1999 page 963
--- I think there have been only two (Sir) George Bruce of Carnock
-----------
David Primrose, of Culross died in 1574 and married Janet Blaw, they had six children, one of these was Euphame who married Sir George Bruce of Carnock
Source Burke's Peerage 1999 page 2446
----------
And so we have one Sir George Bruce married to Margaret daughter of Archibald Primrose and
one Sir George Bruce married to Euphame daughter of David Primrose.
Does anyone know what is going on?
With many thanks.

According to SP ix p82, Sir George did marry Euphame, daughter of David
Primrose in Culross, rather than the BP version. Also, their son's wife
Mary Preston was daughter of Sir John Preston of Valleyfield, not Sir
Robert as is usually said. The Bruce pedigree in BP etc seems to stem
from some inaccurate original, as there are chronological problems with
these two filiations as given.
Hope this helps-

Dear Leo,

Apologies for straying into OT time period, but a possible CP addition
concerns the second son of George Bruce and Mary Preston above named,
ie Alexander (c.1629-1680), who became 2nd Earl of Kincardine.
He is stated in CP etc to have married, in 1659, Veronica (d.1701),
daughter of Cornelius van Arsen, lord of Sommelsdyck and Spyck in
Holland; no mother is given for Veronica. A grandson of this marriage
was the famous James Boswell (1740-95), biographer of Dr Johnson.
Franciscus van Aerssen, heer van Sommelsdijk, Spijk etc. who was born
1600 in Paris, died 1662, and married 1630 at 's-Gravenhage (The
Hague), Luts (Lucia), daughter and heiress (after the death of her
brother in 1625) of Pieter Douwes van Walta (d.1622) of the Waltahuis,
or Thetingastate, Wiuwert, Friesland.
If so, Veronica would be a sister of Francoise van Aerssen (1642-1720),
who married in 1667 Hendrik van Nassau, they being the parents of the
Hendrik who was cr. Earl of Grantham. Francoise did apparently have
seven siblings, the only others I've seen confirmed by name are three
sisters (Lucia, Maria and Anna) who were followers of Jean de Labadie,
the separatist preacher. Possibly a brother was the Cornelis van
Aerssen (1637-1688) who was governor of Surinam from 1683 until being
murdered; although that's more speculative than Veronica's link.
The Cornelis who I believe to be Veronica's father was son of Francois
van Aerssen (1572-1641), ambassador in Paris, and grandson of Cornelis
van Aerssen (1543-1627), secretary to the States-General. They, and
their wives, are on Genealogics.
If anyone can confirm or deny this, please do!

From what I've been able to gather, Veronica seems (absolute proof
would be nice though!) to have been a daughter of the Cornelis
