Gilbert Venables ... of Champagne?

What of this putative descent found at
http://stirnet.com/HTML/genie/continent ... .htm#venab
?

1. Eudes II le Champenois (d. 15 Nov 1037 Bar-le-Duc)
2. Theobold III of Champagne & Blois (d. 30 Sept 1089)
3. Gilbert Venables

Stirnet also seems to imply that Gilbert was a Companion of the
Conqueror, but other sites doubt even this, let alone that he was
uncle of King Stephen. I don't find any mention of this alleged
descent in s.g.m archives.

(By the way, does anyone have a good list
of most of Conqueror's Companions?)

My decision whether to put this link in my database
is automatic: my database is a compendium of allegations,
spurious or not. I do solicit help from this Newsgroup,
as you have so generously given in the past, to assign
appropriate uncertainty indicaters, eg.
p > 60% prob. Theobold
1% < p < 60% poss. Theobold
0% < p < 1% prob. not Theobold
Total fraud Not! Theobold

With which grade do soc.genealogy.medieval experts recommend
that I mark the link
Gilbert Venables to be son of the Count of Blois?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'll read *this* Subject
here in the Newsgroup of course, but please send corrections
on other matters directly to my e-mail, at either my Fab Pedigree or
gmail addresses (not jdallen2000, the spam trap).

The standard answer to this is "My Ancestors came with William the
Conqueror" by Anthony Camp, published by the Society of Genealogists in
1990 and still available from their website at:

There is no basis for this 'speculation'.
