On Leo's great web site here
http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.ph ... 1&tree=LEO

we see Robert Clavering of Callaley b 1480 d 6 Sep 1517
father of
Janet Clavering married John Carr of Hetton (d aft Aug 1551 will)
parents of
John Carr of Hetton d Oct 1550 married Margaret Collingwood
parents of
Thomas Carr b 1521 d 26 Jan 1558 married Elizabeth Heron of Ford [Castle]

Putting the line in this fashion it's apparent that a person born in 1521
cannot have a great-grandfather born in 1480

If anyone knows the true nature of this line, comments are appreciated.

The problem here is the parentage of Janet Clavering. I mistakenly passed
an incorrect parentage for her to Leo a few years ago and failed to recall
that I had done so when I found the error in my data later. Sorry, Leo!
:-)

The wife of John Carr of Hetton is noted in the [new] History of
Northumberland (11:391) as a daughter (unnamed) of Robert Clavering of
Cadelle [sic - s/b Callaly], based on a visitation pedigree. She is called
Janet (but without a specific source) in an article on various Carr and
Heron descents in "The Genealogist' (new series), vol. 6.

A Clavering pedigree in Hedley's Northumberland Families suggests
(tentatively - via a dotted-line descent) that the (unnamed) wife of John
Carr of Hetton was a daughter, not of the Robert Clavering who d. 1517, but
of his grandfather, also Robert (d. 21 March 1452/3). This makes the
chronology at least somewhat better...but it would be helpful to have better
sources. FWIW, this supposed Clavering daughter does NOT appear in a
pedigree of that family in vol. 4 of the History of Northumberland.
