Sir John Griffith IPM 1471

Legg inn av jeffchip9 » 17 des 2005 20:38:57

I have received and digitized the Sir John Griffith inquisition post
mortem dated 1471. It consists of 10 pages in latin. For the most
part, the text looks quite readable. I do not read latin, so I am
looking for someone who can translate this. Due to its length, I think
it will answer many questions raised last month about the parentage of
my Rhys Griffith and his brother Walter, as well as perhaps other
children of Sir John Griffith and his wife Catherine.

Anyone willing to take a crack at this would be greatly appreciated.
If you will send your email address to my address
(jeffchip9@hotmail.com) I will be happy to email you the IPM, which
hopefully you can manipulate if necessary. I should note that The
National Archives at Kew does not permit the posting of the original
copes on the web, or a complete transcription, as they hold the
copyright. However, an abstract with pertinent genealogical
information is acceptable.

Thanks for any help.

I would like to know more about this as well. I am a Griffith descendant on
my fathers mothers side. I am trying to trace my Griffith line back to
Wales and am only finding them in Co. Wexford, Ireland in 1776.
Robert Griffith, b. 1776 in Enniscourthy, Co. Wexford, Ireland, d. 21 Sep
1856 in Carleton Place, Franktown, Lanark Co., Ontario, Canada. They are
descended from the Edwardes/Edwards of Wales and Ireland as well as the
Bluet/Blewett line. Our Griffith line is supposed to be descended from
Llewellyn Griffith of Wales. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.

Edith:
I am sorry but I don't have and information on your line. I had only
one response to my post about getting the IPM translated and have not
heard from that correspondent. It looks as though I'll have to contact
the local university's Classical dept to get it translated.
