Dear Newsgroup ~
This past week while going through the administrative correspondence of
Alphonse of France, Comte de Poitiers et de Toulouse, I encountered
several letters addressed to his kinsman ["consanguineo"], Giovanni
Gaetani Orsini, Cardinal of St. Nicholas in Carcere Tulliano
[Reference: Molinier, Correspondance administrative d'Alfonse de
Poitiers, 2 (1900): 558-560, 564]. The editor notes that this person
was afterwards Pope Nicholas III.
I've checked some online sources regarding the ancestry of Pope
Nicholas III and I'm unable to find the connection between him and
Alphonse of France. Does anyone know the kinship involved between
these two people?

In an earlier thread today, Richardson insisted to Todd that the name
of Boso, count of La Marche, be spelled in French.
Then also today he starts a new thread on a different subject in which
he has:
"Alphonse of France, Comte de Poitiers et de Toulouse" (partly in
English, partly in French);
"Gaetani Orsini, Cardinal of St. Nicholas in Carcere Tulliano" (in
English, why not Italian or Latin?); and
"Pope Nicholas III" (in English, why not Latin or Italian?).
Richardson should explain the spelling rules upon which he has been so
insistent.

I had a momentary lapse, Ceddie. I've corrected the post to read in
English.
