Researchers,

I was wondering whether anyone else had purchased the Penguin Books edition of Domesday Book and what the general impression was.

Take care,

Kelly,

I have the Penguin Classics paperback edition titled "Domesday Book: A
Complete Translation" - not sure if this is the same as your reference
above.

It is an excellent collation of all the material. The two draw-backs
are that (a) it does not contain the text of the original, only the
translation (which, insmuch as the few comparisons I have done with
copies of the original, for Buckinghamshire, is accurate), and (b) it
is indexed by place only, and not by name, so it is not as useful for
genealogical or related study purposes as might otherwise be the case.

Notwithstanding, I rate it as a good and useful resource.

Regards

Michael
