Doug's account of the family of Rev. John1 Oxenbridge the immigrant
includes a discussion of his wives: "married (1st) JANE BUTLER. They
had one daughter, Bathshua (wife of Richard Scott of Jamaica). His
wife, Jane, died 25 April 1655, aged 37 years. He married (2nd) in
1656 FRANCES WOODWARD, daughter of Hezekiah Woodward, of Botscombe,
Gloucestershire, by his wife Frances., etc., etc."
Jane Butler could be futher identified as "daughter of Thomas Butler,
merchant of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, by his wife Mary, daughter of James
Clavering, mayor of Newcastle." See _Memoirs of the Life of Mr.
Ambrose Barnes_ ( http://tinyurl.com/a7sp7 ), pp. 50-64, esp. 61-64.
This may add a bit to the ancestry of the Grimaldis of Monaco, as they
descend from Bathshua Oxenbridge, wife of Richard Scott of Jamaica.

Looks like the Oxenbridge=Butler marriage occurred 28 Sept. 1640 at St.
Stephen Coleman Street, London.

Re: Small addition to RPA-MCA: Identity of Jane Butler, firs
Dear John ~
Many thanks for this addition. Much appreciated. Incidentally, Jane
(Butler) Oxenbridge would have royal ancestry through her mother, Mary
Clavering, who is said to descend from the Clavering family of
Calliley, a cadet branch of the family of Magna Carta baron, John Fitz
Robert.
I checked out the text you referenced, it being Memoirs of the Life of
Mr. Ambrose Barnes. On page 64, it states that [Bathshua], daughter of
Rev. John Oxenbridge and his wife, Jane Butler, married a "Mr. Scot of
Jamaica," and died there "an old woman, having no issue." But in your
post, you have identified Bathshua Oxenbridge as an ancestress of the
Grimaldi family. I assume you are correct. But could you provide
particulars if you have them?
Again, thanks John. You're the best.

Re: Small addition to RPA-MCA: Identity of Jane Butler, firs
Hi, Doug,
I didn't notice that part about Bathshua d.s.p. But I think Gary's
RD600 shows the connection from Rev. Oxenbridge to the Grimaldis (in
the back section, tracing descent of a few recent monarchs from
American immigrants). I believe Jane Butler is shown as the ancestress
in that line. See also Reitwiesner's posting in this thread:

But maybe it's wrong ...

Re: Small addition to RPA-MCA: Identity of Jane Butler, firs
Hi, John ~
Mmmm .... I'll have to ask Gary Boyd Roberts about this about the
Grimaldi connection. Unless Bill Reitwiesner would like to address
this issue here.
I did locate one other addition to Plantagenet Ancestry and Magna Carta
Ancestry. I show that Rev. John Oxenbridge's sister, Katherine,
married George Henley, _____ Phillips, and Philip Skippon. But the
source you provided, Memoirs of the Life of Mr. Ambrose Barnes, pg. 64,
states Katherine Oxenbridge married (1st) _____ Fowler, by whom she had
a daughter, Katherine; and (2nd) _____ Phillips, a knight.
I checked the IGI and found an extracted marriage for "Katherin" Fowler
and George Henley dated 4 May 1643 at St. Andrew by the Wardrobe,
London. This would appear to confirm that Katherine Oxenbridge had a
first marriage to someone named Fowler and that her second husband was
George Henley.
Elsewhere, I've found a Pedigree Resource files which gives the
following marriages to Katherine Oxenbridge:
1. John Fowler, of Bucklersbury, buried 20 Dec. 1642.
2. Married by settlement dated 31 Dec. 1646 Richard Phillips, of Picton
Castle, Pembrokeshire, Wales. He died before 7 August 1648.
3. after 1648 Philip Skippon, of Foulsham, Norfolk, England. He died
in 1660.
The marriage to George Henley is missing, but otherwise the information
appears to agree with what I have. If the Pedigree Resource File's
dates are accurate, then the order of Katherine Oxenbridge's four
marriages would be John Fowler, George Henley, Richard Phillips, Knt.,
and Philip Skippon.
Elsewhere, I've found that Katherine, daughter of John and Katherine
Fowler, was baptized 11 Jan. 1632 at St. Mary Woolchurch, Haw, London.
This is an extracted record. I presume this is the baptismal record of
Katherine Fowler, daughter of Katherine Oxenbridge by her 1st husband,
John Fowler.
Can you find anything else, John?
