Updates to website

Details of some updates to my web site "Some notes on medieval English
genealogy" are at:
http://www.medievalgenealogy.org.uk/upd ... date.shtml

I have included links to some useful out-of-copyright books from the new
Google Book Search facility. I'd welcome details of any other relevant
volumes apart from the ones I've spotted.

Is it correct that there is no way to download an entire book at once
(say, as a pdf file) like you can do from the Gallica site? I would
not expect this for recent books still in copyright, but the apparent
lack of such a feature for public domain books would be, in my
opinion, an inexcusable negative feature.

I am still trying to work out all the details, but it appears that printing
and saving images is still blocked altogether for books still in copyright
(though of course there are ways round this).

For public domain books, single page images can be saved or printed, but as
far as I know there's no way to download a whole book.

But it's awkward enough even to navigate to a particular page of a book (it
requires manual editing of the URL), and I think Google will surely provide
something more user-friendly sooner or later. Maybe they will provide the
facility to download a whole book a once, though they don't seem very
responsive to feedback from users.

If you can get every page by manually editing a URL, then
it is easy to write a program that will get them all.

I was referring to the public domain books, where there's not supposed to be
any objection to visitors seeing the whole book - it's just that Google
hasn't provided a convenient way of navigating to a particular page (even
though there are usually links to the contents page and the index).

Apart from public domain books, there are ones still in copyright but
submitted by publishers - which you can search, and see a limited number of
pages of - and others - which you can search and see small "snippets" of the
text of.
