M. K. Jones in his 1988 article "Sir William Stanley of Holt: Politics and
Family Allegiance in the Late Fifteenth Century," The Welsh History
Review-Cylchgrawn Hanes Cymru, on p. 11 identifies Piers Warburton's second wife
[married in 1469] as Ellen Savage, daughter of Sir John Savage, William Stanley's
nephew.

I am hoping to stimulate some interest in firmly placing Dulcia (Savage)
Bold into the larger framework of the Savage family, in order to establish an
improved royal lineage for the Eltonhead immigrants to Maryland and Virginia.
What needs to be established is whether Dulcia is a daughter of John Savage
(d. 1495) or his son (d. 1492). Five years previous to Ellen (Savage)
Warburton's marriage, a contract was made in Oct. 1464 for the marriage of Henry
Bold and Dulcia Savage, daughter of Sir John Savage.
I can find no contemporary reference to John Savage (d. 1495) as a knight
until 1472, and he was called esquire in his father's 1464 IPM. I believe that
makes it likely he was the John Savage knighted by Edward IV in 1471 [see
Shaw's Knights of England]. D.N.B. clearly identifies with a reference that
the John Savage made a Knight of the Bath in 1465 was John Savage "junior" and
therefore the son of John (d. 1495). Isn't it likely that he was already a
knight bachelor before he was raised to a higher level of knighthood in 1465?
So it appears to my eyes at least that he is likely the Sir John Savage,
father of Dulcia whose marriage was contracted in Oct. 1464.
