The published 1564 Visitation of Northants (ed. W.C. Metcalfe, London,
1887) contains a pedigree for the Tawyer family of Raunds, which has
been augmented from various sources as indicated, and incorporates the
original visitation notes held at the College of Arms [ref. MS H4/37].
The following is a stemma of this unusually-named family:

1. Thomas Tawyer; had issue:

2. John Tawyer, of Raunds, gentleman; living in 14 Henry VI [1435-6];
brass at Raunds: "John Tawyer and his wife Margaret, a group of four
daughters, a shield bearing 3 void lozenges for Raunds; nearby is a
slab with the same arms and a group of four sons: "Of your charity pray
for the souls of John Tawyer and Margaret his wife, which John deceased
the xxv day of January in the year of our Lord mcccclxx, on whose souls
Jesus have mercy" [VCH Northants, sub Raunds]; married Margaret,
daughter and heir of Thomas Raunds of Raunds, esquire. Issue (together
presumably with two other sons and four daughters):

3a. John Tawyer, son and heir; of Raunds, gentleman; died circa 1475
(VCH); married the daughter of ... and by her had issue:

4a. Margaret Tawyer, only daughter and heir; married John Gage of
Raunds, esquire; left issue who succeeded to the Raunds property until
its sale in 1661 (VCH)

3b. Henry Tawyer, second son; of Raunds, gentleman; married Katherine,
daughter of ..., and by her had issue:

4a. Thomas Tawyer, eldest son and heir; of Raunds, gentleman; married
Elizabeth, daughter of ... Dobbes, and by her had issue:

5a. John Tawyer, eldest son and heir; of Raunds, gentleman; married
Anne, daughter of Robert Catlyn of Raunds, gentleman; died without
issue

5b. Thomas Tawyer, second son; heir to his elder brother; of Raunds,
esquire; married Elizabeth, widow of Edmond Bury, and daughter of ...
Underhill of Etenton [Ettington], Warwick, gentleman, and by her had
issue:

6a. Anne Tawyer, living in 1564

6b. Elizabeth Tawyer, living in 1564

5c. Elenor Tawyer, married to Giles Wickliffe of Alyngton [cf Giles
Wykeley of Addington, who settled the manor of Little Addington on his
wife Eleanor, daughter of Thomas Sawyer (sic) of Raunds, in 1553 - VCH
Northants; see Visitation of 1618-9 for this family

4b. Margaret Tawyer, married to Michel Ward of Atelburoughe

Arms: Quarterly: 1 & 4, Or, on a fess sable between three birds sable,
beaked and legged gules, [elsewhere described as "Cornish choughs
proper"], as many mascles argent [Tawyer]; 2 & 3, Azure, on a bend or,
three mascles gules [Raunds]

*************

A branch of this family appears to have settled at Stanwick, Northants
(e.g. John Tawyer of Stanwick, will proved Archd. Northants #296 Book P
1560-1566); one Robert Tawyer married Cecily Gage at North Kilworth in
1596 and had two children baptised at Stanwick (viz William, 1597;
Robert, 1599). VCH notes that the manor of Stanwick passed to John
Saunderson and his wife Cecily [widow of Robert Tawyer] and William
Tawyer [her son by the first marriage], they selling it to the Atkins
family in 1622. There were Tawyers in that neighborhood at least until
the 1680s, according to the probate records of the Court of the
Archdeacon of Northampton.
