| Hi:
|
| Queen Alexandra (For Love of a King, Doubleday (1956), P13) writing of her
| mother's ancestors "They could trace their descent from the Greek
Byzantine
| Emperors and were linked with the noblest families of Venetia and Greece"
|
| Does anyone have the line back from her mother, Aspasia Manos?
|
| If so, could you e-mail me a sketch?
|
| Also, Ketevan, the Martyred mother of Teimouraz ("They [Shah Abbas]
crucified
| her on a tree, and tortured her with red-hot pincers. They placed a
red-hot
| iron kettle upon her head. Thick smoke arose from her burning hair and
head,
| and the Blessed Martyr gave up her holy soul to God On September 13,
1624") -
| was she married just one time, or more than once - to Vakhtang? to
David/Davit?
| Ketevan herself descends of Emperor Alexios I per my charts. I'm thinking
she
| and Queen Alexandra were cousins.
|
| Thanks,
|
| Dave
Dave,
Have you ever gotten a response to the Manos question? I have it, but not
to hand.

Certainly she was descended from the most prominent Phanariot families
but I suspect the claim to imperial descent is based on the unprovable,
although likely, descent of the Phanariot Kantakouzenoi from the
emperor of that name. A more likely source for a royal descent would
be through #31. The Cheremetievs were an old boyar family and probably
intermarried with the Rurikid princes.

The Cheremetev family is treated in volume C of *La Noblesse de Russie* by
Nikolai Flegontovich Ikonnikov. They are part of the agnatic kinship of the
(earlier) Romanovs. The following snippet can be added to the ancestry of
Aspasia Manos:
30. Dmitri Obreskov (1790-1864)
31. Ctss Natalia Vassilievna Cheremetev (1795-1868)
62. Ct Vassili Sergievich Cheremetev
63. Tatiana Ivanovna Martchenko
124. Ct Sergei Vassilievich Cheremetev (1723-1773)
125. Pss Natalia Iakovna Golitzine (1731-1792)
250. P Iakov Alexeievich Golitzine (1697-1749) m. 1715
251. Ctss Elena Petrovna Apraxine (1695-1736)
500. P Alexei Borisovich Golitzine (1671-1713) m. 1694
501. Anna Ivanovna Soukine
Natalia (number 125, above) was a first cousin of Sergei Saltykov (Catherine the
Great's boy-toy), and Alexei and Anna can be found on p. 512 of Roberts' *RD600*
where some Byzantine ancestry for Aspasia Manos (the original posters' original
question) can be traced.
