The parish register of St. Michael Cornhill, London, has the following
listing in 1618 --

May 21 Wm Hathorne & Elizabeth Pasmar, of Bray, co. Linc.; by banns

As the Great Migration sketch for New England immigrant William
Hathorne/ Hawthorne shows, he was born "[p]robably Bray, Berkshire,
about 1606." Given the relatively unusual surname of "Hathorne,"
coupled with the place name of "Bray," it seems this marriage must
really apply to a member of the Hathornes of Bray, Berkshire.

The name Hawthorne is not unknown in Lincolnshire, as a glance at the
IGI will show. What supports your contention, however, is the apparent
absence of a place called Bray in Lincs.

One of the entries in the same register for 1630 shows a marriage
between "Richard Ellis, of Braye, co. Berks, yeoman, & Anne Pasmore, of
the same par."

Back in 2003, I wrote the following --

The three Hathorne / Hawthorne immigrants to early New England
(William, John, and Elizabeth [Hathorne] Davenport) are known children
of WilliamA Hathorne of Binfield, Berks., and his wife Sarah. Sarah's
identity isn't known, but it has been estimated that she and William
married around 1605, based on the baptisms of their children.

The IGI contains an extracted record for the marriage of Wm Hathorne
and Sara Goodding in 1605 at Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire (from
"Oxfordshire Marriage Transcripts, 1538-1837, compiled by J. S. W.
Gibson"). This marriage may belong to William and Sarah of Binfield,
as Henley-on-Thames is less than ten miles from Binfield.
_________

I've noticed another extracted marriage:

Dorney, Bucks.
Wm. Howthorne + Anna Goldinge, 19 May 1572

As the name "Goldinge" is quite similar to "Goodding," and Dorney quite
close to Bray, Binfield, and Henley-on-Thames, this may be another clue.
