Dear Mike ~

Thank you for sharing the information on the Willard family of Kent
from the A2A Catalogue. Most appreciated.

I descend from Richard Willard, of Horsmonden, Kent, yeoman, through
both his son, Major Simon Willard (a famous colonial fur trader), and
his daughter, Margery Willard (wife of Dolor Davis).

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah

Dear Dora ~

You can find a biography of Major Simon Willard in the Dictionary of
American Biography. I believe it mentions his involvement in the fur
trade.

Best always. Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah

What is the A2A?

Do you have any more information on the Willards? Were these other Willards
of Horsmonden his brothers? If so, who were their parents?

Here is what I had on Richard the father of Simon and of Margery:

Styled himself "yeoman" in his will, thrice married, children by each wife.
Margery and Simon were children of second wife Margery. George, christened
1614 who also emigrated in 1634 was child of third wife.

He left a considerable estate, mainly in lands. His will;

these portions pertain to daughter Margery:

"Item, I geve and bequeth vnto my fower daughters namely Mary Elizabeth
Margery and Catherine, all my household stuff & implements of householde
(not before willed nor bequethed) beinge in fower pts equally devydede by my
executor,"

"The disposicon of my sayd lands and tenemets is as followeth that is that I
do will geve and bequeth to Maregerie & Catherin & to their heires for eu'r
my mesuag barn cloase ij gardines & orchards sch I bought of Wood,"

Itm I do will & beqeth vnto my said fower daughters the yerely pfecte of all
my said mesuage & lands untyll Symon Willard my sonn shall come to his fuill
agee of xxijty yeres equally to be devided between them & to be payed vnto
as they shall come to their seurall ages of xxjty yeres"

The will appears to be signed by Richard Willard in person. He mentions Mary
now wife of John Davy my syster in Lawe.

Unknown how and why Simon disposed of the landed estate he inherited from
his father.

According to Great Migration, volume II, page 296, Margery Willard was
christened 7 November 1602, Simon 07 April 1605, and George 4 December 1611.

Always optimistic--Dave
